Queensland will take the first steps on their 2024-25 Sheffield Shield quest in Perth next week when they take on the defending titleholders at the WACA.
Bulls Eye WACA Clash
Test batsman Marnus Labuschagne will captain the team, with the Queensland selectors naming a 13-man squad for the Shield match against WA that starts on Tuesday.
Former WA quick Liam Guthrie has been included in the squad along with Australian Under-19 paceman Tom Straker who made his Bulls One Day Cup debut last month.
Straker, who joined Queensland from NSW in the off-season, would make his first class and Shield debuts if chosen in the Bulls starting side on Tuesday.
Similarly, left-handed Toombul batsman Lachlan Hearne would make his Bulls Shield debut if chosen in the starting team after previously tasting first class cricket with NSW.
Both Hearne and Straker made their Queensland One Day Cup debuts a fortnight ago.
Players who weren’t available for selection as they continue to make their returns from injury included Xavier Bartlett (side strain), Callum Vidler (groin), Jem Ryan (hamstring), Hugh Weibgen (finger) and Gurinder Sandhu (calf)
Queensland will also take on WA in the One Day Cup at the WACA on Sunday 13 October. The Bulls squad for that game will be announced next week.
The season opener Shield match will be broadcast on FOX Cricket, as well as streamed on Kayo and cricket.com.au
