Fire Rebound In Style

The Queensland Fire have bounced back from a disappointing first-up WNCL loss to clinch an emphatic bonus-point victory over NSW today in Sydney.

The Fire won today's game by 79 runs, redressing their five wicket loss on Friday to the Breakers that also saw them concede a bonus point.

Queensland batted first on a pitch that got tougher to bat on the longer the day went, producing 9-215 from their innings. Wicket-keeper Georgia Redmayne top-scored with a patient 61 to claim player of the match hnours, while Mikayla Hinkley (33) and captain Jess Jonassen (39) ensured the Fire would produce a higher scorer than Friday when they were kept to 182.

All members of the Queensland attack claimed wickets today, with pace bowler Courtney Sippel taking 3-28 and leg-spinner Grace Parsons snapping up 2-18 and Nic Hancock using the new ball superbly to finish with 2-24.

On Friday, Queensland had motored to 1-116 with Georgia Voll (65) and Charli Knott (47) putting on 110 for the second wicket, only to lose wickets rapidly as they tumbled to 182.

With both teams claiming bonus points wins in their opening round, Queensland will have a keen eye on their upcoming matches against Victoria at Peter Burge Oval on October 10 and 12.
