Queensland won the title last season in Hobart, and the squad will largely be a fresh group with just one player returning from the victorious outfit when the titles begin tomorrow in Ballarat.
Gold Coast allrounder Jackson Steinhardt is back for his second titles and will lead the way for Queensland which has included several well-credentialled club and school cricketers.
The squad includes Sunshine Coast pace bowler Will Noffke, son of former Queensland quick Ash, as well as Sandgate-Redcliffe batter Steven Hogan.
Hogan, 16, joins several of his teammates in playing higher grades in the KFC Queensland Premier Cricket competition after strong performances in the recent Lord’s Taverners Under-17 competition that was won by University of Queensland.
For the second season in a row, Cairns Rovers has provided a player to the squad, with Henry King following in the footsteps of Seth McGinty who played last summer.
The Cricket Australia National Under-17 titles will take until 11 January.
The squad will be coached by former Queensland Bulls players Gavin Fitness and Greg Moller, with Fitness taking charge of last season’s championship team and Moller the coach of the Queensland Under-19 team that finished runners-up last month in the national titles.
