Voll Ignites Fire Again

Another strong batting effort from Georgia Voll has propelled the Queensland Fire to an important win in the Women's National Cricket League today.

Voll completed her second Player of the Match performance in as many games as the Fire strode to a 46-run win over Western Australia at Allan Border Field.

Voll fell just short of a century, but her 98 off 94 balls put Queensland on track for a big score, whch the Fire batting line-up delivered.

Queensland finished 4-331, with other telling efforts from Georgia Redmayne (61), Charli Knott (44), Lauren Winfield-Hill (32no) and a rollicking 73no from 46 balls from Jess Jonassen.

It provided the home side with a strong chance to defy the early season Allan Border Field track record where teams batting first had won all three WNCL games at the venue.

WA did not shirk from the task, as they shrugged off their batting woes from their first game on Thursday when they were bundled out for 81.

Captain Chloe Piparo produced a sparkling century as the visitors put on a 165-run opening stand.

But left-arm pace bowler Lucy Hamilton and Voll put the brakes on, with Hamilton claiming Piparo and then Voll bowling an economical 10-over stint to finish with 1-48.

Queensland quick Nicola Hancock (3-53), allrounder Sianna Ginger (2-35) and Jonassen (2-55) picked up wickets at regular intervals once the breakthrough had been made as the Fire tightened up the WA batting chase.

A bonus point was a possibility but WA fought on to finish 9-285.

The win meant Queensland has banked nine points from their opening four games, after losing their first two matches to NSW.

Their WNCL campaign will resume in December, with the focus moving to T20 cricket from next week.

The new Spring T20 Challenge competition starts next week as the a lead-in warm-up series prior to the Weber Women's Big Bash League.
