Bazley Back For Bulls

The Bulls may unveil a third pace bowling debutant in as many matches with Toombul quick Tom Balkin selected for tomorrow's One Day Cup match against South Australia at Allan Border Field.

Balkin, 20, has been included in the 12-man squad for the first time and if named in the starting XI, would make it a ‘trio of Toms’ to debut for Queensland so far this season.

Already his squadmates Tom Straker and Tom Whitney have made their first class or One Day debuts for the Bulls this summer, with Balkin coming into the group due to minor injuries to regulars Mark Steketee and Michael Neser.

Like Straker and Whitney, Balkin is a former Australian Under-19 player and is currently part of the Queensland Cricket Academy squad.

Steketee (ankle), Neser (hamstring), Ben McDermott (hamstring) and Jack Wildermuth (groin) were all unavailable for selection for tomorrow’s one-dayer.

Steketee, Neser and McDermott all reported soreness following the end of yesterday’s Sheffield Shield match won by South Australia.

A decision on the availability of Steketee and Neser for Queensland’s next Shield game, against NSW in Sydney next Friday, will be made next week whiile McDermott and Wildermuth will also be assessed further.

The injuries also mean a recall to the one-day side for wicket-keeper Jimmy Peirson and allrounder James Bazley, with the duo set to play their first limited overs games this season.
