Valley paceman Benji Floros (above in action in the KFC T20 Max) could become the second member of his family to play for Queensland following his selection in the Bulls squad for this week’s Sheffield Shield clash with NSW in Sydney.
Bulls Ready For Blues
Floros, 26, was named today in a 13-man Queensland squad for their third round Shield match against the Blues at Cricket Central starting on Friday.
His older brother Jason played Shield and One Day cricket for Queensland between 2010 and 2017 and in the BBL for the Sydney Thunder and Brisbane Heat.
Floros, originally from Canberra, was previously a Bulls contracted player in 2020-21 and has played Toyota 2nd XI cricket for the ACT/NSW Country and Queensland.
His career was disrupted by an ACL injury two years ago suffered while playing AFL alongside his brothers Jason and Tim for Kedron Lions in the QFA.
Floros, who has also represented Australia in Indoor Cricket, would make his first class debut for Queensland if chosen in the starting XI as the Bulls juggle a long list of unavailable players due to injury, Australia ‘A’ and ODI selections.
Also named in the squad for the first time this season are Redlands off-spinner Jack Sinfield and University of Queensland opener Angus Lovell.
Lovell comes into the squad off the back of a prolific fortnight that saw him score an unbeaten 250 against Victoria in a Toyota 2nd XI game followed by a match-winning century for UQ in the Final of the Kookaburra One Day Cup.
Players unavailable for selection this week included Michael Neser (Aust A), Mark Steketee (ankle), Gurinder Sandhu (calf), Callum Vidler (groin), Jem Ryan (hamstring), Marnus Labuschagne (ODI), Jack Wildermuth (groin) and Tom Whitney (heel).
However allrounder Hugh Weibgen and Australian T20 selection Xavier Bartlett are both set to resume playing Premer Cricket in the next week.
Pace bowler Tom Straker returns to the squad after missing the clash with South Australia earlier this month.
