Fire Call On Rookies

The Fire host three-time champions Tasmania at Allan Border Field on Sunday and Tuesday and have included two first-time selections in their squad of 13 for the matches.

Childers product Catherine White, a right-arm pace bowler, and Toowoomba spinner Lilli Hamilton come into the Fire squad for the games.

White, a Queensland Under-19 representative, will come straight from the Australian Country Championships in South Australia where she has been representing the Queensland Brolgas.

A Bundaberg junior, White plays Premier Cricket for the Sunshine Coast.

Hamilton played for the Heat in the T20 Spring Challenge earlier in the season and was also a Queensland Under-19 representative. 

She was named in the Cricket Australia Team of the Tournament at the National Under-19 titles in Perth last month., where Queensland finished as runners-up.

Hamilton, no relation to her namesake Lucy, will go into Year 12 at Fairholme College in Toowoomba next month. She plays her Premier Cricket for Western Suburbs in the Katherine Raymont Shield.

The duo have gained selection following the announcement of the Australia Under-19 squad for the ICC World Cup in Malaysia, with Queenslanders Lucy Hamilton and Lilly Bassingthwaighte departing today for the second ever U-19 World Cup.

Queensland is also without Australian ODI player Georgia Voll who is with the Women’s Ashes squad, and leg-spinner Grace Parsons who is returning from a back injury.

The Fire are in second spot on the WNCL ladder, three points behind South Australia while Tasmania currently sit in fifth spot.
