Toombul has become the latest KFC Queensland Premier Cricket Club to boost its accessibility for all levels of cricket with the Oxenham Park facility to turn on its floodlights tomorrow night.

Oxenham Park Lights Up!

Thousands of boys and girls will now be able to experience playing cricket under lights at Oxenham Park, the home of Toombul District Cricket Club, thanks to funding pledged by Federal Sports Minister Anika Wells during the last federal election.

The new $1.3 million lighting upgrade includes Class 3 lighting levels (750 lux) at Ken Mackay Oval, positioning Toombul with the lighting International and Domestic matches in future.

The project was delivered by T2 Electrical & Data, who designed and implemented the cutting-edge lighting upgrade to maximise light distribution while minimising impact on local residents.

In addition the Shaw Road and Allan Border Field redevelopments, this new upgrade provides cricket in Brisbane’s inner northern suburbs with another facility that has game standard lighting to enhance performance, experience, inclusivity and playing flexibility.

Queensland Cricket Infrastructure Manager Tom Gibson said the lighting upgrade is part of Queensland Cricket’s strategic objective to deliver a statewide infrastructure network supporting growth and elite cricket.

“Across both Premier and Community Cricket, this upgrade will deliver greater experiences for participants and provide new ways for cricket to be played in Brisbane North.”

Toombul President Andrew Cranstoun spoke about how beneficial this facility will be for cricket in Queensland.

"We’re really excited about the opportunities this project will create for our community. This upgrade ensures that our senior players can compete in conditions equal to the best, and provide more opportunities for boys and girls.”

Toombul will host a group of Premier Cricket night matches over the coming weeks, most notably a Mens 1st Grade pink ball Two Day game on Saturday 18th and Sunday 19th January. The facility will also host a Mens Under 19 T20 game on Friday 10th January and the Taverners Queensland Girls Under 16 T20 semi final on Friday 31st January.
