Queensland Cricket has delivered a mid-season opportunity for an array of promising talent with selection of the latest Queensland 2nd XI team.
Performances Rewarded
The squad to take on NSW in the national Toyota 2nd XI competition next week contains two players – left-arm paceman Marcus Bean and batter Hugh Weibgen – who are currently involved in the KFC Big Bash League Finals series this week.
The 2nd XI match at Peter Burge Oval starts on Monday and runs through to Thursday.
If Bean (Hurricanes) or Weibgen (Thunder) are involved in the BBL Final, replacement players will be determined.
Toombul batter Amritpal Grewal’s body of runs as earned him his first selection at 2nd XI level.
Grewal has 794 runs at 44.1 to lead the first grade runs-scoring ranks in the KFC Queensland Premier Cricket competition.
The Queensland team also reunites four members of last year’s ICC Under-19 World Cup championship team in captain Weibgen, wicket-keeper Lachy Aitken and quicks Tom Straker and Callum Vidler.
Middle order batter Max Bryant (pictured above) will look to transfer his recent white ball success with the Brisbane Heat to four-day red ball cricket.
Bryant was the Heat’s second leading run-scorer which featured two scores in the 70s.
