Bulls Clinch Key Win

A dashing maiden one-day century by Lachlan Hearne has delivered a crucial win for the Queensland Bulls at Allan Border Field.

Hearne, who left NSW more than 18 months ago to seek greener pastures with the Bulls in the north, combined with Max Bryant and Jack Wildermuth to up-end the ladder leaders with a vital One Day Cup.

The clean-striking left-hander joined with Bryant for a 100-run stand from 78b alls after Queensland was wobbling at 4-54 after a delayed start due to rain.

The pair worked steadily to rebuild the innings before Hearne hit the after-burners to flay four sixes in a row off Moises Henriques and set the Queensland innings alight.

When Bryant was dismissed for 34, allrounder Wildermuth continued his recent batting purple patch as he and Hearne peppered the boundaries and beyond at Allan Border Field in a 120-run stand.

Wildermuth belted 83 from 56 balls with six fours and five sixes, including one monster over the Stuart Law Stand as e produced his highest List A score for Queensland..

Hearne also opened up as he registered his initial List A century in just his sixth game for Queensland.

He was dismissed at the end of the 42nd over for 107 from 91 balls, with four fours and seven sixes.

Gurinder Sandhu scored a valuable, unbeaten 21 to take the score past 300 from their allotted 45 overs.

NSW made a solid start to their chase, reaching 1-113 in the 18th over, before they crucially lost 3 for 5.

After captain Mitch Swepson dismissed Matthew Gilkes for 34, debutant quick Callum Vidler snared two wickets in three balls, with Henriques and Oliver Davies departing for ducks.

That left NSW 118 for 4 at the end of the 19th over and they never quite recovered. A 50-run stand between Sam Konstas and Hayden Kerr for the eighth wicket raised NSW hopes of chasing down the formidable Queensland total.

But when Liam Guthrie snared Kerr for 14, NSW were 233 for 8 at the start of the 38th over.

Sandhu claimed Konstas' wicket in the 40th over to confirm Queensland would win and the only interest remained whether the home side could claim the bonus point, by dismissing NSW for less than 247.

But the visitors passed that target and their last wicket fell at 42.2 overs as Queensland won by 54 runs despite a brilliant 116 from Konstas.

Wildermuth was strong with the ball, taking 2-42, while Guthrie picked up 3-45 in another notable effort.

The Bulls moved into third spot, with their last regular season match against WA next Sunday at the Gabba a virtual knock-out semi-final with the top two teams going through to the decider.
