Runs Flow For Premier Men

Weekend Wrap | Saturday 8 Feb

Toombul survived a gallant run chase from local rivals Sandgate-Redcliffe.

Chasing 346 on their home deck, Sandgate’s middle order fought had to get their side in a position to chase the total.

Sandgate batters 3 through 7 were Steve Cawood (42 off 71), Steve Hogan (54 off 140), Rory Livingstone (61 off 115), Jet Liebke (53 off 95) and Jack Cooper (42 off 26). When Cooper fell, the Gators were 6/283 and pushing hard towards the total.

Ultimately, it was Toombul’s experience which proved the difference. Former Qld Bull Ronan McDonald (5/75) led his side from the front, bowling a massive 25.4 overs in the day.

Young speedster Tom Balkin (2/72) was also impressive in his 22 overs, while Pierce Ryan (3/39) made a big impact in his short burst. McDonald wrapped up the last three wickets inside the last 10 overs of the day to see Sandgate dismissed for 305.

The win sees Toombul head into next week in 1st position on the ladder.

Jack Wildermuth (pictured) returned to top form for Valley, as his huge century led his side to a win over the top of the table Sunshine Coast.

Having set 273 last week, the Scorchers got off to a strong start and had Valley quickly 4/85. Chad Soper (4/56) continued his great season, picking up the dangerous Max Bryant for 0.

Unfortunately for the Scorchers, Wildermuth (176 off 180) was at his unstoppable best as he hit 14 boundaries and 9 sixes throughout his impressive innings.

Wildermuth, Dylan McLachlan (45 off 81) and Connor Nowlan (68 off 77) helped Valley reach 414. Kiran Carlson (5/153) led the Scorchers wicket takers.

Norths notched a first innings win against Wynnum-Manly to keep their finals hopes alive, however they were unable to secure an outright win which would’ve surged them up the ladder.

Norths batted on and quickly pushed their lead to 113 runs before declaring 9/247, Connor Carroll (83 off 84) top scoring.

Wynnum wicket keeper Reuben Burger (40 off 118) showed his class, his side’s only batter to score above 20 as they fought their way to 9/175 at stumps. Sam Neale (3/45) led the bowlers for Norths.

After winning on first innings last week, Ipswich batted through the second day against the Gold Coast to mitigate any chance of a second innings result. B

risbane Heat and now Australian Idol contestant Jack Wood (120 off 102) smashed 10 sixes in his brutal century. He and his younger brother Harry (79 off 134) led their sides scoring. Ipswich finished 7/330d in the second innings.

Against all odds, Wests managed to hang on for a thrilling draw against University on Wep Harris Oval.

Uni’s Will Crook (4/34) and Will Sanders (2/35) dominated the Wests batters, leaving them 7/120 after 52 overs with a full 44 overs left to play.

Wests’ overseas pro Dan Douthwaite (84 off 202) dug in with the tail to give his side some hope. Douthwaite paired with number 10 Soham Sane (35* off 108) in a remarkable partnership which lasted over two hours.

When Douthwaite fell, it was up to Tom Whitney to see out the 5 remaining overs, which he was able to do. Wests finished 9/223 to Uni’s 306. The result leaves both sides still well in finals contention.

Souths played out a draw against Redlands on Peter Burge Oval.

After declaring 8/380, Redlands came out hard in search of a result. Despite a surge from Jack Sinfield (2/53) and Bailey Stewart (2/39) which saw 5 wickets quickly tumble, Souths opener Aryan Jain (137* off 250) was able to hold steady and bat his side through the day. Jain and Connor McMillan (33* off 143) saw through to stumps for a draw, Souths 6/252.
