Premier Finals Loom

A stirring all-round effort from Queensland star Charli Knott was in vain as the race to the Katherine Raymont Shield Finals intensified last weekend, as LAURA SCHEIWE outlines.

With just one match remaining in the season before finals commence, Sandgate-Redcliffe have moved into first position and have solidified a finals appearance.

They are followed closely by University of Queensland and Sunshine Coast Scorchers.

Each point will be vital as the regular season comes to a close. Last weekend certainly showed this.

University of Queensland was inspired by Charli Knott as they looked to win the battle of the west against near neighbours Western Suburbs.

Knott hit 55 from 51 balls to help UQ to 141, with teenage spinner Ayaka Stafford a stand-out with 5-25.

Wests chase looked in disarray thaks to Knott. The Queensland Fire all-rounder took 6/42 off 10 overs on a turning deck, as a batting collapse that came out of thin air saw the visitors lose 7-11.

Needing 3 runs with just one wicket remaining, it was anyone's game to win. Tail enders Caitlin Lutvey (1* off 14) and the experienced Ash Sims (4* off 5) got Western Suburbs over the line in a stressful situation. This claimed a much needed victory to keep their season alive.

To snatch the top of the ladder position, Sandgate-Redcliffe had another successful weekend against Valleys DCC.

Continuing a great run of form, Caitlin Mair hit 65 off 61 deliveries alongside Darcey Johnson (58).

The Gators hold all three top runscoring positions for the One-Day competition including Cooper, Mair, and Johnson. Lauren-Winfield Hill also struck 54 runs off only 44 balls as Sandgate dominated the innings with a total of 275.

Another impressive all-round performance for Sianna Ginger was not enough for Valleys as the all-rounder smashed a quick 84 off 61.

It was a clinical display with the ball for Darcey Johnson as the off-spinner took 4/51 and left-arm wrist spinner Jess Cremin contributed with 3/44. A simple victory for the Gators as Valleys were bowled out for 187.

Wynnum-Manly won the toss and elected to bowl in their clash against Sunshine Coast. English import, Georgie Boyce did not waste anytime as she smashed 89 runs before being run out.

A rapid middle order knock from Tarah Staines (46 off 37) and a late contribution from Bonnie Berry (33* off 19) propelled the Scorchers to 8/260. Some tight work again from both Wynnum off-spinners, Clodagh Ryall (2/30) and Hannah Tucker (2/53) as they dismissed the top order.

Young English wicketkeeper-batter, Seren Smale hit her top score for the season of 49 (50). A huge 106 run partnership between Eve Mollee (48) and Allegra Pollock (49) gave the Sea Eagles a chance although wickets got the best of them.

In contrast to other weekends, pace bowling played a major role with Shari Anderson (3/45) and Queensland Fire athlete, Berry (2/24) leading the way with the ball.

A valiant effort, Wynnum pushed to 8-201 off their 50 overs, falling 59 runs short of the target.
