The Queensland Fire will host their second Women’s National Cricket League Final next Sunday in a day/night clash at Allan Border Field.
Fire To Host WNCL Final
The Fire will finish on top of the ladder in the wake of yesterday’s results in the final round of WNCL fixtures, with their opponents to be determined by the last regular season games tomorrow.
South Australia, NSW and defending champions Tasmania are all in with a chance to qualify for the decider depending on the outcome of their matches tomorrow.
Queensland hosted the WNCL Final at Allan Border Field in 2016-17, the first time the State had been able to hold the decider at home.
NSW won the match to collect the title, with Queensland forced to wait until the 2020-21 season to claim the State’s inaugural WNCL championship and receive the Ruth Preddy Cup for the first time.
The Fire were runners-up last season to three-time title holders Tasmania.
Queensland Cricket CEO Terry Svenson said the Final would be eagerly anticipated by fans.
“We know how much it meant to the fans of the Queensland Fire when the team won their first title so to be in a position to host this season’s Final at Allan Border Field is very exciting,’’ he said.
“We’re looking forward to hosting the decider and making the event a celebration of women’s cricket in Queensland by showcasing the skills of the players.”
Further match details, including broadcast and match times, will be announced by Cricket Australia once the make-up of the Final is confirmed.
