The Queensland Fire have finalised their 13-player squad for Sunday’s Women’s National Cricket League Final against NSW at Allan Border Field.
FIRE NAME FINAL SQUAD | Take On NSW On Sunday
Australian player Georgia Voll will miss the day/nighter after being signed by UP Warriors in the Women’s Indian Premier League as a replacement player for the remainder of the tournament.
She left earlier today for India where she will link with Queensland teammate Grace Harris in the Warriors squad.
Fire coach Mark Sorell said the squad had prepared itself for the possibility that Voll could be missing for the Final.
“It had been on the cards, so we prepared ourselves this week as if she wasn’t going to be available, as a worst-case scenario,’’ he said.
“Volly wanted to play, but we weren’t going to stand in her way either. She’s had a great season for Australia and this stint will add to her international experience going forward.”
Voll, 21, made her international debut in all three formats in the Women’s Ashes whitewash, scoring her maiden ODI century, as well as being named Domestic Player of the Year at the Australian Cricket Awards.
The Queensland squad named today won three of its last four games this season and will be led by wicket-keeper Georgia Redmayne, who was captain of the Fire’s breakthrough WNCL championship team in 2020-21.
Redmayne, English international Lauren Winfield-Hill, Laura Harris and Nicola Hancock make up an experienced core of the squad that also contains Australia ‘A’ reps Charli Knott, Courtney Sippel and Grace Parsons and recent Australian Under-19 players Sianna Ginger, Lucy Hamilton and Lilly Bassingthwaighte.
Sunday’s game starts at 1.30pm and will be broadcast on Fox Cricket, streamed on Kayo and cricket.com.au with radio coverage from ABC.
Admission is an optional gold coin donation with proceeds going towards Queensland Cricket’s Women and Girls’ Initiatives.
It is the second time that Allan Border Field will have hosted the WNCL decider, with NSW winning the 2016-17 Final after Queensland had earned hosting rights that season.
