Queensland Cricket will join with the State Government to deliver relief to cricket clubs affected by recent severe weather events around Queensland.
QC Backs Recovery Relief
The Queensland Government announced this week that clubs affected by ex-Tropical Cyclone Alfred in South-East Queensland could apply for grants up to $5000 through the Disaster Recovery Program in disaster declared areas.
This program is to help clubs with immediate clean-up efforts in the wake of widespread damage through destructive winds, rain and flooding from TC Alfred’s affects as it passed along the SEQ coastline with further financial assistance to be considered once damage assessments are completed.
Queensland Cricket, through the QC Foundation, will make available grants up to $2000 to assist clubs and associations throughout Queensland to recover from severe weather events, including widespread flooding in North Queensland last month.
QC CEO Terry Svenson said the Foundation would continue to seek donations and support from the public to assist with the recovery process.
“The extent of Tropical Cyclone Alfred’s impact from the Gold Coast through to Hervey Bay has been well documented,’’ he said.
“With areas around Townsville and Ingham in North Queensland still recovering from the serious flooding last month, Queensland Cricket will make available immediate funding opportunities to help our clubs with rebuilding and recovering.”
“We will welcome any donations and support from the public to help with this process and are thankful the Queensland Cricket Foundation is able to respond so swiftly to help in this instance,’’ Svenson said.

Minister for Sport Tim Mander encouraged all eligible clubs to apply for help through the Disaster Recovery Program.
“The Crisafulli Government promised no daylight between our response to ex-Tropical Cyclone Alfred and the recovery,” Minister Mander said.
“We want to ensure every community returns to normal life quickly, including our local sporting organisations.
“These grants offer financial assistance to help with those recovery efforts.
“We also thank the volunteers who are working incredibly hard to get these clubs back up and running.”
