Queensland Cricket has selected a 14-man squad for next week’s Sheffield Shield Final against South Australia in Adelaide.
BULLS NAME FINAL SQUAD | State Chasing Tenth Shield Title
Test batter Marnus Labuschagne will captain the side with the squad also including fellow Australia player Usman Khawaja who comes back into the squad in place of off-spinner Jack Sinfield.
Opener Matt Renshaw, whose wife Josie is expecting their second child, has been included in the squad.
The Bulls will travel to Adelaide on Monday to finalise preparations for the five-day Final starting on Wednesday at Karen Rolton Oval.
Queensland will be chasing its tenth Shield title and last won the trophy in 2020-21 when Labuschagne was player of the match scoring 193 in an innings and 33-run defeat of NSW at Allan Border Field.
Players returning rom the 2020-21 title victory are Labuschagne, Khawaja, Renshaw Michael Neser, Jimmy Peirson. Mitchell Swepson and Jack Wildermuth.
Wildermuth and Peirson scored important centuries last week in Queensland’s draw with South Australia that saw the Bulls qualify for the Final by claiming maximum batting bonus points.
The Bulls will now look to deliver a remarkable last to first scenario if they can overcome table-toppers South Australia at home, with the decider falling 30 years on from Queensland’s famous maiden Shield Final win over SA at the Gabba in March 1995.
Queensland Cricket Chair Kirsten Pike congratulated the squad on their selection and wished them every success next week.
“There has been plenty of unnecessary distractions this week, but we will move forward together towards the Shield Final, which is a match that our players are absolutely thrilled to be a part of,’’ she said.
“I know that Queensland will be 100 percent behind this team. Playing, and winning Finals, is what the players and coaches work so hard for across a year, and the Board and staff of Queensland Cricket are confident the Bulls will be raring to go when they take the field on Wednesday in pursuit of victory.”
The match will be streamed live on Kayo and cricket.com.au and ABC radio coverage via the ListenApp.
