The Queensland men's and women's team had their caps presented to them in a special event prior to the official opening ceremony, which was taken indoors to the Big Shed at the Showgrounds due to the rain.
The Queensland teams heard from long-serving former Queensland Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island representative player Barry Weare, who also played for the Prime Minister's XI, about the importance of the championships and to be proud of representing their communities and State.
Andrew Wilcox MP, the Member for Dawson, and Jack Cahill, representing QC sponsor Ward, presented individual caps to the players ahead of the tournament that got underway yesterday.
The Queensland women lost their opening T10 clash against NSW, while the Queensland men's game against Victoria was a no result.
