Hitters Go Head To Head

Former Brisbane Heat and South Australian batsman Tom Cooper led the morning charge with a 98 not out from just 55 balls as he blasted the Dutch to a five wicket win over the Queensland XI at Norman Gray Oval at Fairfield.

That came after Heat and Queensland Bulls batsman Max Bryant hit his second half century in as many games, racking up 50 from 41 balls as the home side registered 9-147.

But Cooper, one of the Dutch team's most experienced campaigners, turned the chase on its ear after Queensland made early strikes with the ball.

His remarkable knock featured four sixes and 11 fours as the visiting team finshed 5-149 from 18,4 overs. Recalled Australian T20 spinner Mitch Swepson had 0-31 from his four overs, as Queensland battled to rein in Cooper, while young Valley left-arm finger spinner Zanden Jeh claimed 2-19 from four overs.

The afternoon game was a power-packed affair, with the Netherlands posting 8-149 with Bas de Leede top-scoring with 49.

But the Queensland run chase went up a level, as Bryant and Josh Brown pummeled 15 sixes between them as they reached 2-150 in just 13.4 overs.

Bryant pounded 10 sixes on the way to 79 not out from just 25 balls, while Brown was 46 not out from 33 balls as the pair powered the home team to a win.

Brown has been earmarked as a Brisbane Heat Local Replacement Player for the coming KFC Big Bash League in the wake of his dominant effort in the KFC T20 Max competition for Norths.
