Marnus To Lead Bulls

Australian Test player Marnus Labuschagne will make his senior captaincy debut tomorrow as he takes charge of a new-look Queensland Bulls team.

Labuschagne will lead the Bulls in tomorrow’s Marsh One Day Cup game against South Australia at Karen Rolton Oval in Adelaide.

It will be his first game as captain of the Bulls.

Neither team can make the Final of the limited overs competition and under Labuschagne’s leadership, Queensland will field a side that will feature a debutant and two players making their initial List A appearance of the season.

Valley wicket-keeper Dylan McLachlan will take over the gloves from regular ‘keeper Jimmy Peirson who is managing a knee complaint ahead of the Marsh Sheffield Shield game starting on Friday in Adelaide.

The 25-year-old McLachlan made his Toyota 2nd XI debut for Queensland last month in the win over WA in Perth and played practice games for the Brisbane Heat Academy side prior to the KFC Big Bash League.

McLachlan, who has First Nations heritage through the Kamilaroi people whose traditional lands encompass central northern NSW and western Queensland, toured Vanuatu with the Australian Indigenous team last year.

He has been a regular starter in the Queensland Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander team, which competes at the National Indigenous Cricket championships in Alice Springs.

He has been selected for the 2023-24 tournament that gets underway from next week.

A product of Marist College Ashgrove, the right-hand batter and wicket-keeper will be the first Indigenous player to represent Queensland since Brendan Doggett (now part of the SA squad), and Mikayla Hinkley.

The Bulls squad also includes leg-spinner Mitch Swepson and Norths pace bowler Connor Sully who are set to play their first one-day games of the season.

The 50-over match will be broadcast on FOX and Kayo and streamed through cricket.com.au.
