Lovell Double Ton Stakes Claim

University of Queensland opener Angus Lovell has provided 250 great reasons for a prospective return to first class cricket as the Queensland Second XI went large at Junction Oval in Melbourne today.

The tall right-hander was unbeaten on 250 today against Victoria, with Queensland scoring 5-470 dec.

Lovell, born on the Isle of Man and raised on the Sunshine Coast, made the most of the batter-friendly conditions in Melbourne as he patiently picked up where he left off last night when play resumed this morning.

Resuming at 190 after batting all of the first day against a Victorian line-up that included Glenn Maxwell, Lovell was resolute in the face of accurate pace bowling from the likes of David Moody and Xavier Crone, whittling down the 10 runs needed to reach his double century.

No stranger to a big score after previously scoring double hundreds in the KFC Queensland Premier Cricket competition, Lovell combined with Scott Palombo (72) to lift the visitors to an imposing first innings total, carrying his bat through the 121 over innings.

Redlands spinner Jack Sinfield was up to the challenge when the Victorian innings got going, being hit for a six from Maxwell early, before finishing with the best of the Queensland bowling figures with 3-63 from 14 overs. Lovell claimed the final wicket of the day for good measure, as the home side finished day 2 at 6-222.

Lovell made his first class debut last summer for Queensland, playing four Shield games for the Bulls.
