Queensland Country Bank's Good for Good Community Grants

Queensland Country Bank has once again demonstrated its unwavering commitment to supporting local communities through its Good for Good Community Grants.

The initiative aims to empower various groups across Queensland to deliver impactful projects that foster growth and inclusivity. The 2024 grants round featured a high number of applications, with two of the 15 successful recipients coming from the cricket community.

Mulgrave Combined Cricket Association, based in Cairns, were awarded a grant as they look to increase female participation in the area – with a special focus on the Indigenous and local Indian community of Yarrabah. Vice President of the Junior Club at Mulgrave Combined Cricket Association Michelle Garner, said the grant was a major boost for the club.

"The grant we've received will assist with equipment, uniforms and transport for junior female cricketers based in Yarrabah – allowing them to join our club regularly. We currently have 26 girls playing here at the club, helping us create important and needed pathways and opportunities for these cricketers in the wider region."

Another cricket beneficiary is the Stanthorpe & District Cricket Association, using grant funding to upgrade its cricket covers for their two turf pitches – as well as additional equipment to assist with pitch preparation when battling wet weather.

Aaron Newman, Queensland Country Bank CEO, is proud to see the Good for Good Program support local cricket communities across Queensland.

"One of the benefits of being a member-owned bank is that some of our profits go back into supporting our local communities. Supporting organisations like Mulgrave Combined Cricket Association, and Stanthorpe & District Cricket Association, is at the heart of what we do at Queensland Country Bank."

“Our Good for Good program is just one way the bank supports the communities that support us. Many smaller regional and remote communities really rely on not-for-profit groups to help improve the liveability of their local communities, and we are pleased to be able to support the work of some of these community groups with their projects. It’s about doing good for good.”

Queensland Cricket CEO Terry Svenson expressed his gratitude on behalf of the successful recipients, highlighting the role Queensland Country Bank are playing in the community.

“Queensland Country Bank's support has been invaluable to Queensland Cricket since joining as our Principal Partner in 2024. The Good for Good Community Grants program is an important initiative, and we are grateful for the support it provides communities. The most recent grants to the cricket communities at Mulgrave & Stanthorpe has had significant benefits.”

It’s been great to learn about their Good for Good Grants program, and fantastic to also hear that cricket communities in Mulgrave & Stanthorpe have been successful in their application. This support, which is beyond our partnership scope, is testament to their continued commitment to the wider Queensland community."

Beginning in 1971 as the Isa Mine Employees’ Credit Union Limited, the bank was initially established to support the basic banking and small lending needs of employees. By the late 1970s, the credit union expanded its services to include employees of Pioneer Sugar in North Queensland, eventually evolving into Queensland Country Credit Union and later, Queensland Country Bank.

Today, Queensland Country Bank serves over 100,000 members across the state, providing a full range of banking and insurance products. The bank's extensive network of branches across Queensland, along with its digital banking options, allows it to offer a genuine banking alternative to all Queenslanders, regardless of their location.
